Weathering the Storm

It’s pretty crazy out there right now.
There’s no denying that the world we are living in is getting pretty gnarly. Whether it’s in the arena of politics, societal safety, or personal health and well-being. Life right now is just not easy.
We must find positive and constructive ways to weather this current stormy reality. The good news is, weathering the storm makes us stronger. Human history is full of examples of how we were able to rise above the darkness and distress and come out better people as a result. Not sure about your own capacity to do this? Here are a couple of useful tips to help you cultivate that inner strength and weather this current stormy season on planet earth.

# 1 – Connect to a higher / deeper source. Learn how (if you don’t know how) and practice often (if you do know how) the art of moving beyond the mundane reality of day to day life.

This skill is important for a couple of reasons. Number one is stress reduction. Connecting into a source beyond yourself takes tremendous pressure off of your mental and emotional state of being. This impacts your physical health as well. Chronic stress leads to physical illness. Connecting to a higher/ deeper source gives you the experience of knowing you are not in this alone. This connection process does not have to be complicated or elaborate. Simple meditation, prayer or time in nature can serve this purpose.

#2 – Raise your own vibratory frequency. This means: change how you are feeling. Especially if you are struggling to maintain a positive outlook or find yourself cycling through negative thought patterns.

Learning how to shift what is going on in your own energy system/emotional body is extremely important. As they say, “what you focus on gets bigger.” Knowing what works for you to pull yourself out of a rut can make all of the difference in the world! AND knowing when you need help pulling yourself out of a rut is equally important. Sometimes something as simple as physical activity, dancing, music, or deep breathing can be enough to allow that heavy stuff that is hanging on you to fall away. Sometimes, it might take something more.

Whether we like it or not, the tough times are here to stay for awhile. This means we need new ways–new ways to deal with what is going on. New ways to safeguard ourselves from excessive negativity out there in the world.

    I recently stashed a sachet of lavender in the front pocket of my backpack, so when I go to take notes in class, it reminds me to breathe deeply for a moment. I find that that aromatic, peaceful breath is a great way to take on learning for the evening!
